CVN GAGANA KALARI

About Me

I began learning Kalaripayattu during my childhood. My early training started in the southern style of Kalaripayattu, where I built my foundation in body conditioning, discipline, and traditional practice. Later, I continued my journey in the northern style at EPV CVN Kalari, Kaduthuruthy, under the guidance of Shaji Vasudevan Gurukkal, from whom I continue to learn and deepen my understanding of this martial tradition.

Through years of training and performing, my connection with Kalaripayattu grew stronger—not only as a martial art but also as a way of understanding the body, movement, and inner discipline.

In 2025, I founded CVN Gagana Kalari in Chottanikkara, Ernakulam, with the vision of sharing this powerful tradition with more people. Gagana CVN Kalari is a space for learning, practicing, and experiencing the depth of Kalaripayattu through dedicated training and performances.

My aim is to continue learning from my teachers while passing on this living tradition to the next generation of practitioners.

Training Method

The training method in Gagana Kalari develops the body and mind through a blend of traditional Kalaripayattu training and fluid movement practice. It begins with foundational conditioning, including grounding postures, flexibility, and coordinated movement patterns. As practitioners progress, training expands into dynamic sequences, aerial techniques, weapon practice, and hand-to-hand combat. Breath awareness is integrated throughout the practice, encouraging focus, balance, and fluidity while building strength, agility, and discipline.

The Team

Our performance team is a collective of dedicated martial artists and traditional performers who come together to present powerful and authentic Kalaripayattu demonstrations. Each member brings their own experience, skill, and artistic understanding of the martial tradition, creating performances that are both energetic and culturally rich.

The team includes Thejus Reghunadh, founder of Gagana CVN Kalari, chief trainer, and Kalaripayattu performer. Aaravind Divakaran, founder and chief instructor of Nilam Kalari Academy in Kochi, is also an experienced Kalaripayattu performer. Ansil Krishna and Rony Anto Joseph serve as co-trainers at Gagana CVN Kalari and are active performers in the team. Abhijith, a traditional Garudan Thookkam artist and Kalaripayattu performer, brings a unique cultural element to the performances.

Together, the team presents dynamic Kalaripayattu performances that showcase strength, agility, rhythm, and traditional weapon techniques. When requested, the performance can also include or creatively blend Garudan Thookkam with Kalaripayattu, offering audiences a rare and powerful cultural experience.
